When surprisingly clever sixth grade bullies tried to tease me with the nickname Danielle Dorky I reclaimed that narrative and made dorky something to aspire to. I guess you could say I’ve been subverting story lines ever since.
Since graduating with my B.A. in English from Cal State LA in 2010, I’ve made it my mission to gain as much experience in the writing and communications fields as possible. I’ve worn a plethora of hats, including content creator, publicist, copy editor, social media coordinator, and event planner. I’m a regular contributor to Autotraddle, Wear Your Voice Mag, and Atlanta Blackstar, and previous clients include The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Cedars Sinai.
In January 2016, I founded Free the Nipple Yoga, a monthly women’s workshop that promotes body positivity and empowerment. The class regularly sells out and has been featured in Attn:, Well&Good, Yoganonymous, Thrillist, and other popular websites.
